Evaluation: Question 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The layout of my music magazine has changed a tremendous amount since my preliminary task I have not thought about anything in my prelimary task, it is disorganized messy makes no sense has big gaps and is just randomly placed. My new magazine however I learnt how to structure the front cover, structure text using guidelines and now I believe it looks very much professional and neat. The picture is also of much better quality and displayed neatly and to one side like my design was meant to be.
My college
magazine’s picture was not one of good quality I over edited it cut half her
head of and made her look like a munchkin to be completely honest looking back
now I do not understand why I did it. Where as my music magazine photo is high
quality taken by an SLR camera so I could focus and zoom this helped me get a
very clear picture as you can see from some of my test shots it took a lot for
me to learn how to use this camera effectively.
Since my
college magazine I have learnt how to portray my genre of a music magazine as I
have learnt about things such as mise-en-scene so I can now make someone look
like a rock star.
I then
started to think about colour and font sizes ca help magazines, I learnt that the
sizes and font can show the magazines genre especially when it comes to the masthead.
I used big fonts for the bad name as this is the biggest feature in the
magazine and should attract the audience this shows understanding.
The layout of my magazine is better structured than my college magazine and I have organized my page better and made it a lot more understandable, I also added actual stories unlike my college magazine.
The text
font for my college magazine was also not very reader friendly and I didn’t know
about serif fonts back then so I believe writing alone has improved because I have
now learnt.
In my preliminary
task there was a lot of open space with nothing in since then ive found out
this space should be filled to give my magazine a more professional look, More
blank space the less attention your magazine will get.
The college
magazine photos were also taken in a rush so the do not look good, I now know I
have to take time choose the right light and time for a decent picture.
I also
believe you need some form of props to help you hint at the story. You must
reflect your genre well.
Evaluation: Question 6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have used Blogger to show the process in how I learnt about making a magazine
and then actually creating my own music magazine and then evaluating my work.
After each lesson I uploaded a new post to show what I had done in class
that day so that it can show the progress I have made. although I did have trouble with it at first after a few mistakes I learnt what I was doing wrong.
I made two presentations on prezi.
I used an SLR camera to take my photographs for my music magazine it helped as you get a better quality of photograph
I used photoshop to create my music magazine front cover, contents page and
double page spread.
I used I show you to creat both my podcasts, although I never enjoyed making podcasts I did notice it helped me notice all the design mistakes I made.
I have used iPhoto to download my photos to the computer and select the ones
I want to keep.
Evalation: Question 5 - How did you attract/address your audience?
I answered this in a powerpoint aided by prezi to show what I have achived with this technology.
Evaluation: Question 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product? Why?
I have drawn a person who is the ideal target audience of my magazine, I think he is the type of person who would buy my magazine as she seems to be quite creative (takes media/fine art at university) and would be a fan of music as he does things such as play guitar so my audience will typically have an interest in music. I think the audience would wear typical darker and trendy fashion clothes as this would reflect the genre of music they like which would be rock/alternative in this case. The typical age for my magazine would be 16-19 years old so he fits into this age range and would purchase a magazine like mine as it suits the age range tastes and provides the things they would like to appear.
Evaluation: Question 2- How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Angle- The angle is eye level/straight on so it
appears the artist is looking at the reader. This comes across as confident and
cocky so my target audience could relate to the artist, or at least take interest
in the story.
Lighting- Both
pictures are taken at night to depict the idea of a night out getting out of
control and drunk, the exposure of the pictures though makes the artist almost
look very unwell like they may be excessively drinking or on some form of
narcotics. I personally believe this lighting draws attention to model not
background so works effectively for catching ones eye.
Costume- the two
costumes are very different in each photo but work because it is very casual
looking a jacket and whit t-shirt, I choose to use a darker jacket mainly
because I believe it gives the photo a sense of deeper darkness not seen as
much in these genre of magazine unless the artist is in turmoil it is also
zipped up unlike the other image showing it’s a personal matter he is not
willing to share.
I also gave him a
empty bottle of whiskey for the audience to only slightly see so they can guess
what’s going on.
Expression- Both
artist look directly at the camera but Noel Gallagher mouth is open giving him
a dazed and confused look like he has just noticed the camera and mine is
closed mouth and a 1000 yard death stare to show the seriousness of the
situation he is in.
Hair- both hairstyles
are quite classic of the genre medium long hair, both brown and kind of messy.
Giving of quite a rough manchunion look like a little group done well which
gives the artist a very rough charm.
